Telcon provide a large range of encapsulated or potted Hall Effect Sensors (HES’s) from its UK manufacturing facility. This represents a high percentage of sales due to the technology becoming more widely adopted in many applications such as sensing position, speed or directional movement. Robust, reliable, compact and easy to use.
HES technology is based around a magnetic sensor which is used for detecting the strength and direction of a magnetic field produced from a permanent magnet or an electromagnet with its output varying in proportion to the strength of the magnetic field being detected. HES’s are the go-to choice of sensor for OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and design authorities due to the enhanced reliability and being predominantly a PCB assembled component ensuring a non-contact, low maintenance, wear free device. With no moving parts the longevity and reliability of the product is increased. Being encapsulated ensures a robust design that’s protected from external factors such as humidity and vibration. (Also known as Hall Sensors). They provide a higher level of safety and avoid the power dissipation associated with shunt resistor-based solutions.
The Hall Effect Principle
The Hall effect is a phenomenon discovered by Edwin Hall in 1879. It occurs when an electric current flows through a conductor or semiconductor placed in a magnetic field. The interaction between the magnetic field and the moving charge carriers (electrons) causes them to deviate from their straight-line path, resulting in a voltage difference (known as Hall voltage) across the material. This voltage is proportional to the strength of the magnetic field and the amount of current flowing through the conductor.
